Wrong Number Showing on Text Messages? Here’s What You Need to Do?


Has it ever happened to you that you’ve messaged someone and your number is showing as the wrong number on text messages? If yes, it is not a common issue but can happen to anyone who’s recently ported their number. 

If you see the wrong number showing on text messages, it means that after a number is ported to another mobile network, it has not been synchronized with Google messaging or is not updated in the case of iMessages.

2- Sending Messages with RCS Instead of SMS (Android)

1- Steps to Fix it on an iPhone or iOS 

The main issue in an iPhone arises in iMessages. Generally, iMessage has to be updated manually if you are seeing the wrong number on text messages. To fix it, follow these steps-  

  • Go to the ‘Settings/ and choose ‘Messages’ and turn off ‘iMessage’. 
  • Restart your phone. You can do that by pressing and holding the on/off button.   
  • Go to the ‘Settings’ and choose ‘Phone’. Go to ‘My Number’ and check if it is correct! 
  • In case it is not correct, enter the correct phone number.  
  • Now, turn on iMessage. You can do it by selecting ‘Settings’ and ‘Message’.  
  • Go to the option of ‘Send and Receive’ and check if the right number is being displayed.  

If the number is right, you can start sending iMessages.  

2- Steps to Fix it on an Android 

If you have the issue of the wrong number showing on text messages on an Android phone, here’s what you have to do-  

  • Go to the ‘Settings’.  
  • Tap on ‘Messages’. 
  • Choose ‘More options’ and go to the ‘Settings’. 
  • Select ‘Chat Features’.  
  • Turn off the ‘Chat Enable’ feature.  
  • Wait for 15 minutes.  
  • Restart your phone.  
  • Turn on ‘Chat Features’ and get started!
